Privacy Policy
This policy explains what DamnKicks (“we”, “us”) collects when you use https://damnkicks.com (the “Site”), why, and what you can do about it. DamnKicks is run by Gorka Llort (NIF 47919537A), Carrer Luca 16 1º 3a, 08022 Barcelona, Spain, who is responsible for your data. Questions go to info@damnkicks.com.
What we collect, and why
- Drop alerts. When you sign up we keep your email address, when you signed up and whether you confirmed. We email you once to confirm, and only send alerts after you click that link. Every alert has an unsubscribe link. When you unsubscribe we stop emailing you and keep the address only as “unsubscribed”, so it is never emailed again by mistake. Ask us and we delete it completely.
- Messages, tips and custom pairs. When you use the contact form we keep your name or handle, your email (if you give one), your message and any photos you attach. We use them to reply, to check a tip, and, if you sent a custom pair or a tip for publication, to publish it. We never publish a source’s name or email. Photos are re-saved on upload, which removes location, camera and date data, and they stay private until an editor uses them in an article.
- Spam protection. To stop floods of messages we count requests per visitor for a few minutes. Your IP address is only kept as a scrambled (hashed) value for that window, never in readable form.
- Server logs. Like every website, our host keeps standard logs of requests (IP address, page, browser) for security and to keep the Site running.
- Visitor statistics. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, so we know which pages people read and where they come from. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and doesn’t follow you to other websites. It records the page you viewed, the site that sent you, your browser and device type, your country (worked out from your IP address, which isn’t kept for this) and how fast the page loaded. We only ever see totals, never individual visitors. Visits from logged-in editors aren’t counted.
- Google Analytics. We also use Google Analytics to see how readers find and use the Site: the pages you view, how you got here, how long you stay, your browser, your device and your rough location (country or city, worked out from your IP address; Google doesn’t store the IP address). It uses cookies (_ga and _ga_…) that tell a returning visitor from a new one and last up to 2 years. In the UK, the EU, the EEA and Switzerland these cookies are only set if you agree through Google’s consent message; until then Google only receives cookie-free signals with no identifier. Elsewhere they’re set when you visit, and you can block them in your browser or with Google’s opt-out add-on. We only see totals, never individual visitors, and we don’t use Google Analytics data for advertising. Visits from logged-in editors aren’t counted.
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t use it for anything other than the above. We only hand it to anyone else when the law requires it, for example a court order.
Cookies and similar storage
DamnKicks sets no cookies of its own for readers. Cloudflare Web Analytics uses none; Google Analytics does (see above), and in the UK, the EU, the EEA and Switzerland only after you agree. Beyond that, cookies are only used for our editors’ logins. The Release Dates page remembers whether you last picked the Timeline or the Calendar view, in your own browser’s storage: it never leaves your device, and you can clear it at any time.
When ads are on, Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies on the pages that show them (see Advertising below). Visitors in the UK, the EU, the EEA and Switzerland are asked first, through Google’s consent message, and no advertising or analytics cookies are set until they agree. You can change your mind at any time: clear this site’s cookies in your browser and the question comes back.
Advertising
If and when we show ads, they come through Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can turn off personalised ads at Google Ads Settings and opt out of other vendors’ cookies at aboutads.info/choices.
Retailer links
Buy buttons take you to retailers such as Nike or Foot Locker. Some are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. Once you leave DamnKicks, the retailer’s own privacy policy and cookies apply.
Who helps us
- DreamHost (USA) hosts the Site and its data.
- Brevo (France, EU) delivers our emails: alert confirmations, alerts and replies.
- Cloudflare (USA) counts visits for our statistics, without cookies.
- Google (USA) runs Google Analytics for our statistics, and serves ads if and when ads are switched on.
Some of these companies are outside the UK and EU. Where your data goes abroad, it is protected by the safeguards the law requires, such as the standard contractual clauses these providers use.
How long we keep it
- Alert sign-ups: until you unsubscribe (then only the “unsubscribed” marker), or until you ask us to delete them.
- Messages and photos: as long as we need them to reply, check the story or credit the work, and no longer than needed. Ask and we delete them.
- Spam-protection counts: a few minutes.
- Google Analytics visit data: 14 months at most, then Google deletes it; its cookies expire after 2 years.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you (including in a format you can take to another service), to correct it, or to delete it. Depending on where you live (for example under the UK or EU GDPR, or Californian law), you may also object to how we use it or ask us to restrict it. Email info@damnkicks.com and we reply within a month. If you’re unhappy with our answer, you can complain to a data protection authority: in Spain that is the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (AEPD), and you can also go to the one where you live.
If you live in a US state with its own privacy law, such as California, you can ask us not to sell or share your personal information by emailing info@damnkicks.com. We don’t sell it. Google’s ads may use cookies to personalise advertising, which you can switch off in Google Ads Settings (linked above).
The legal basis for each use: your consent for drop alerts (you can withdraw it any time by unsubscribing) and, where the law asks for it, for advertising and analytics cookies (you can withdraw it as described under Cookies); and our legitimate interest in answering messages, publishing tips, keeping the Site secure and knowing, in totals, how the Site is used.
Children
The Site isn’t aimed at children under 14, and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has sent us their details, tell us and we’ll delete them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we update it here and change the date at the top.
