Nike has dated a second rat for New York. The Air Force 1 Low Retro Halloween, called the “NYC Rat” in the sneaker press, is on Nike.com for Friday, October 23, at 10:00 ET, priced at $140 in men’s sizes.
What it looks like
The official colorway is Baroque Brown/Black/Terra Red. Nike pairs real and synthetic leather in black with shaggy brown faux fur over the heel, collar and Swoosh, so the back half of the shoe reads like a rat’s coat. The toe box keeps the AF1’s perforations, and the laces are a chunky plush black.
Nike’s description promises glow-in-the-dark eyes and a glow-in-the-dark outsole, which shows as a dusky pink in the product shots, plus an NYC label on the tongue. It’s built on the Retro shape: a slimmer profile, rounded toe, curved heel tab and a longer tongue than the everyday AF1 ’07.
It isn’t the first rodent AF1 this month. The Air Force 1 ’01 “Subway Rat” (IV6999-001) came out on October 7; this is a separate pair with its own style code, IV4884-200.
Release date and price
- US: Friday, October 23, 10:00 ET, $140, men’s sizes, on Nike’s product page, which shows it as coming soon

- UK and Europe: no Nike GB or Nike Spain page is live yet
Will it be hard to get?
Probably not very. It’s a general release on Nike.com rather than a SNKRS draw, and Halloween AF1s tend to be bought to wear in October rather than flipped. Our hype score of 38 is an estimate on that basis, with no resale data yet. Faux fur doesn’t suit everyone, which helps the odds too.
More from the brand on our Nike page. If you want a pair for Halloween itself, the 23rd gives you a week of shipping time; later than that is a gamble.
