Update, October 11: Released on Wednesday, October 7, on SNKRS and at select retailers, at $150. Sizes vary by retailer now.

The College Grey and Pink Glaze Air Force 1 ’01, nicknamed the “Subway Rat”, released on SNKRS on Wednesday, October 7. It is a New York shoe through and through, and a stranger one than the usual city-themed pair.

What the Subway Rat is

The upper is a long-pile grey suede that reads more like fur than nap, the closest thing to a rodent’s coat you can lace up. Pink Glaze picks out the extended heel pull and the translucent outsole, and Nike’s own description calls it a tribute to subway commuters.

The jokes go further than the colours. Sneaker Files reports a heel tab shaped like a rat’s tail, an NYC and Swoosh graphic behind the tongue, insoles that form a pizza slice when the pair sits side by side, and a yellow hangtag styled after an old MetroCard with a big Swoosh where the transit logo would be. Pink spare laces come in the box alongside the tonal grey set.

The base is the ’01, Nike’s slimmer-toed, thicker-leather take on the Air Force 1 that it calls the silhouette’s gold standard. Style code IV6999-001.

Price and where to buy

  • US: released Wednesday, October 7, 10:00 ET on Nike’s SNKRS listing, $150.
  • Retailers: select Nike Sportswear accounts, per Sneaker Files and Nice Kicks.
  • UK: Nike GB hadn’t listed it when we last checked, and no UK date or £ price has been announced.

Can you still get a pair?

Sneaker Files reported fewer pairs than a standard Air Force 1, and New York-themed AF1s tend to go quickly on SNKRS. If you missed it, check the select Nike Sportswear stores before resale. Our hype score of 49 was an estimate built on allocation and channel.

More Nike drops on our Nike page. Outside the US, a Nike GB listing is the next thing to watch.
